Foreign Minister John Baird, Sarah Attia and the Muslim Brotherhood: I WANT TO RAISE MY CHILDREN IN EGYPT

A woman who published an article in the North American press stating she had left Canada and wanted to raise her children in Egypt is now lobbying the Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird and Mississauga Member of Parliament Stella Ambler.  She wants the two politicians to get her non-Canadian citizen husband out of an Egyptian jail.

Sarah Attia (a Canadian citizen) is pressuring the Canadian government to get her husband (non-citizen) out of jail where he has been held since early July of 2013. He is Khaled Al-Qazzaz. According to his own Twitter account, he was working in Egypt as “Secretary on Foreign Relations, Office of the President Politics: Freedom & Justice Party.”  The president in question was Dr. Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s president of Egypt in 2012 and 2013.  The Freedom and Justice Party is the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.  His jailing appears to be part of a sweep of Muslim Brotherhood officials.  While in Canada (perm res) as a student (2000-2005) he joined the University of Toronto Muslim Students Association and was the president of the club in 2003/04.  He also makes it clear on social media that he was born in Egypt and lives in Egypt.

Sarah Attia is the daughter of Dr. El-Tantawy Attia.  He is the executive director of the Masjid Toronto which is identified as being part of the Muslim Association of Canada which follows the practices of the Muslim Brotherhood.  Dr. Attia has also been involved in a number of other projects such as being a main point of contact for a 2002 fund raising event to support CAIR CAN operations.  Dr. Attia was also on the board of directors for the Muslim World League (Canada) along with Hassan Hachimi (among others).  Mr. Hachimi, a Toronto based architect, is currently the head of the political bureau of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, according to a statement by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Sarah Attia was also listed as a point of contact for the CAIR CAN fundraiser on the same announcement.  She is the former Vice President of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Muslim Students Association and was a speaker at May 18-19, 2002 - 28th Annual Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) Canada Convention in Toronto.  She is a graduate of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Toronto, with a master’s degree in chemical engineering. She was heavily involved in the Muslim Students Association at both the undergraduate and graduate level.  According to the Muslim Students Association of Canada and the USA, she was:

Among those publicly calling for his release is Dr. Tariq Ramadan, a close relative of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hassan Banna.

Sarah Attia and Mr. Qazzaz were married in 2005 and left Canada to live in Egypt.  In 2011, Sarah Attia took her children aged ages 1, 2½ and 5 to see the protests at Tahir Square which would eventually result in the overthrow of President Mubarak.  She has written about the experience and wrote two similar journalistic pieces, one for a blog and the other for newspaper. Both articles had the title “I Took My Kids to Tahir Square.

In the article she notes that:

At that moment, I decided that I wanted to continue to raise my children in Egypt if these were the men and women that they would grow to be.

Should politicians in Canada be responsible for rescuing non-Canadian citizens?
